Welcome to our newsletter. It is hard to believe we are half way through the year and winter is once again with us. We have been crunching some numbers and thought we would share a few interesting stats with you*. Did you know that one in every 335 people living in NZ is a licensee. There is one licensee for every 6.1 property sales and one complaint for every 126 sales. The average age of all licensees is 50. However the average age of agents is 58. Males win the oldest licensee category with 90 years old (the oldest female is 86) but females take out the youngest licensee award with 18 years old (the youngest male is 19). View the age distribution graphs.

In July we will be running a survey to find out what you think about the service we provide. We want to provide a high standard of service so we need to know what you think we are doing well, and more importantly, what you think we can do better. So, if you receive an email asking you to take part in the survey, we would appreciate it if you could take 5 minutes to let us know your thoughts.

We have had some queries about whether Facebook pages are considered advertising. Facebook pages that are set up specifically to promote your services in real estate are considered to be advertising. This means your Facebook page should comply with section 121 of the Act and include (1) your name and the fact you are licensed under the Act and (2) the name of the agency you work for (unless you are an agent who is a sole trader).

June saw us farewell one of our senior members of staff – our Legal Counsel, Martin Sawyers.  Martin made a significant contribution to our business - particularly around providing compliance advice to the industry. Martin was a familiar face at industry events and conferences and was well known for his practical advice on keeping safe with the REAA. We wish Martin well for his next adventure as the Chief Executive of the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board.

If you have any questions at all about your obligations as a licensee please continue to get in touch with us – both our legal and early resolution teams are keen to help and are just an email ([email protected]) or phone call (0800 367 7322 or 04 471 8930) away.

Finally, I am sure you will all be interested to know, the annual levy we set will be remaining the same until at least 30 June 2016. We will be doing a review of the levy structure during the next 12 months.

I hope you find this information useful and please remember to give us a call, or send us an email, if you have any questions.
