It is hard to believe that we are well into the second half of the year already and we will soon be starting the countdown to Xmas. July saw us reach over 15,000 active licensees - the highest number we have had since early 2011. In the 2015/16 year we had a record number of people join the industry, with over 2,000 new licences being issued.

We are working towards issuing our very first professional standard. The purpose of a professional standard is to provide best practice guidance on specific areas of real estate agency work. We have the ability to issue professional standards under section 12(i) of the Real Estate Agents Act 2008. The first professional standard will be on supervision. We continue to get a lot of enquiries about supervision and our complaint data shows that this is an area of ambiguity and confusion which is why it has been chosen as the topic for the first professional standard.  We are looking to consult on this standard in September/October so watch this space.

With only four months left until the end of the year now is a good time to get onto your continuing education if you have not already completed it. Your 10 hours of verifiable and 10 hours of non-verifiable continuing education need to be completed by 31 December 2016 so you are eligible to renew your licence in 2017. You can find out more on our website.

This month's newsletter is packed with useful guidance information including the do's and don'ts of drone photography, conduct when not carrying out real estate agency work and some tips on supervision
and last but not least how to avoid becoming a dog’s dinner i.e. avoiding dog bites when on a client’s property.

I hope you find this month's newsletter helpful, and remember to give us a call, or send us an email if you have any questions.
